About Us
Clothes should feel as good as they look.
Linenroot is a curated shop for women's and men's clothing made from cotton, linen, ramie, lyocell, modal, and other plant-derived fibers. Every piece is selected for its material, feel, fit, and craft, with fiber details clearly listed on the product page.
Our Founder's Story
Why Linenroot exists
It took me a long time to understand that clothes are not only about how other people see us. For years, I shopped the way many people do: by style, price, and whatever was in season. I rarely thought about the fabric resting against my skin.
That changed during a hot summer, when I wore a pair of wide-leg linen trousers. Whether I was moving, sitting, or standing, the fabric stayed away from my skin and felt light and breathable. The difference was so clear that I wanted to understand why two garments could feel so different to wear.
I began reading care labels and gradually replacing synthetic pieces in my own wardrobe. Cotton, linen, ramie, lyocell, and modal each felt different, but all of them made me pay closer attention to comfort, movement, and the relationship between fabric and the body.
“I haven't designed anything. I simply let each person who wears my clothes appear as they truly are.”— Cheng Hui-Chung, Taiwanese clothing artisan
Those words stayed with me. They expressed an idea larger than fabric: clothes should not ask us to reshape ourselves around them. They should not tighten our breathing or hold our shoulders in place. The most comfortable clothes are often the ones that let us forget we are wearing them.
Inspired by that idea, I began searching systematically for brands and makers working seriously with plant-derived fibers. I tried individual pieces and placed one order at a time. I found that thoughtful clothing was available, but often scattered across small, difficult-to-find shops.
So I created Linenroot to bring those pieces together. This is a place for people who care about how clothing feels, not only how it looks. Every garment offered here must pass the same four standards I use when choosing clothes for myself: material, feel, fit, and craft.
I am not here to make more clothes. I am here to select more carefully — using the standards I rely on for myself.
How We Curate
Every piece passes four layers of selection.
Plant-derived fibers only
We accept cotton, linen, ramie, lyocell, and modal. Polyester, nylon, acrylic, and other synthetic fibers are not accepted in the garment's textile composition.
Relaxed against the skin
A garment should not cling, tighten, or irritate. Its hand feel should remain comfortable through repeated wear and proper washing.
Loose, never shapeless
The cut should give the body room to move and breathe without asking you to constantly adjust your posture to suit the clothes.
Thoughtful treatment
We give priority to traditional techniques and lower-impact dyeing processes, and avoid fabrics that rely on excessive chemical finishing.
This is how I choose clothes for myself. Now, it is the standard for everything you can find here.
What We Believe
Clothing comes from the earth and exists for people.
Every plant-derived fiber has a character of its own.
The softness of cotton. The dry, airy touch of linen. The structure of ramie. The drape of lyocell. The smoothness of modal. We respect these qualities instead of trying to discipline them into sameness.
Plant-derived fibers belong in our wardrobes not as a passing trend, but because the layer closest to the skin should begin with something that was grown.
Loose is more than a cut. It is an attitude: let plants wrap the body, and let the body exist before the pose.
